Ingredients

  • Baby Onions- ¼ cup
  • Ghee- 2 tbsp
  • Rentio toor dal- 1 cup
  • Sliced onions- 1 cup
  • Chopped tomatoes- ¾ cup
  • Salt to taste

For the paste

  • Dry Kashmiri red chilies- 8
  • Chopped garlic- 1 tbsp
  • Coriander seeds- 2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Chopped ginger- ½ roughly
  • Chopped coriander- 2 tbsp

How to make masalawali toor dal?

  1. Take a pressure cooker and add 1.5 cups of water, toor dal, and baby onion cook it for the 3 whistles.
  2. Let the pressure of the cooker release on its own and open the lid of the cooker. Keep it aside.
  3. Now heat the ghee in a non-stick frypan and add onion and sauté it on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the prepared paste and sauté it on a medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Add cooked toor dal, salt, tomatoes and 1 cup of water, mix it well and cook it on a medium flame for 8 to 9 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  6. Garnished with coriander and serve hot.
