The Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition: A Tribute to the Bond Movies

James Bond is known for driving some of the most iconic and sophisticated cars in cinema history, from the Aston Martin DB5 to the Lotus Esprit. But did you know that the British spy also has a soft spot for Jeep? In fact, the Jeep brand has appeared in four Bond movies, starting from Dr. No in 1962 to Moonraker in 1979. And now, the latest Jeep model, the Compass 4xe, is ready to follow in the footsteps of 007, with a special edition inspired by the upcoming movie No Time to Die.

The Jeep-Bond connection

The first time a Jeep vehicle appeared in a Bond movie was in Dr. No, the debut film of Sean Connery as 007. In this movie, Bond drives a Sunbeam Alpine to the home of Miss Taro, a double agent working for the villainous Dr. No. On his way, he is chased by a Chevrolet Bel Air driven by one of Dr. No’s henchmen, who tries to force him off the road. Bond manages to evade his pursuer by driving through a construction site, where a Jeep CJ-3B is seen carrying some workers. The Jeep is painted bright yellow, making it stand out from the other vehicles in the scene.

The next time a Jeep vehicle appeared in a Bond movie was in Live and Let Die, the first film of Roger Moore as 007. In this movie, Bond travels to the fictional island of San Monique, where he investigates the activities of Dr. Kananga, a corrupt politician and drug lord. Bond drives a white and blue Moke, a small and simple vehicle based on the Mini, through the streets of San Monique. The Moke has a striped surrey top and features the unique “San Monique” artwork created for the movie. Bond uses the Moke to escape from some of Kananga’s men, who chase him in a Chevrolet Impala. The Moke proves to be agile and nimble, allowing Bond to maneuver through narrow alleys and crowded markets.

The third time a Jeep vehicle appeared in a Bond movie was in The Spy Who Loved Me, the third film of Roger Moore as 007. In this movie, Bond teams up with Anya Amasova, a Soviet agent, to stop Karl Stromberg, a megalomaniac who plans to destroy the world and create a new civilization under the sea. Bond and Amasova drive a white Lotus Esprit, which can transform into a submarine, to Stromberg’s underwater base. On their way, they are attacked by a helicopter piloted by Naomi, Stromberg’s henchwoman. Bond and Amasova manage to evade the helicopter by driving the Lotus into the water, where it converts into a submarine. The helicopter then lands on a nearby beach, where a Jeep CJ-5 is parked. The Jeep is painted in a light blue color and has a canvas top and a spare tire on the back.

The fourth and last time a Jeep vehicle appeared in a Bond movie was in Moonraker, the fourth film of Roger Moore as 007. In this movie, Bond investigates the theft of a space shuttle, which leads him to Hugo Drax, a billionaire industrialist who plans to wipe out humanity and create a new master race in space. Bond travels to Brazil, where he meets Manuela, a CIA agent, who helps him track down Drax’s secret launch site. Bond and Manuela drive a yellow Jeep CJ-7 to the Amazon rainforest, where they are ambushed by Jaws, Drax’s metal-mouthed henchman, and his girlfriend Dolly. Bond and Manuela escape from Jaws by driving the Jeep into a river, where it floats like a boat. The Jeep has a black roll bar and a winch on the front.

The Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition

To celebrate Jeep and Bond's long and fruitful relationship, the Jeep brand has launched a special edition of the Compass 4xe, the plug-in hybrid version of its compact SUV, inspired by the upcoming movie No Time to Die. The movie, which will be the 25th installment of the Bond franchise and the fifth and final film of Daniel Craig as 007, is scheduled to be released in October 2021, after several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition is based on the Trailhawk trim, which is the most off-road capable version of the Compass. The special edition features a unique exterior design, with a black grille, roof rails, mirror caps, hood decals, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a black “4xe” badge on the tailgate. The body color is Carbon Black, which contrasts with the red tow hooks and the red accents on the Trailhawk badge. The special edition also features a “007” logo on the front fenders and on the center console, as well as a “No Time to Die” badge on the tailgate.

The interior of the Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition is also enhanced with some exclusive details, such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, leather seats with red stitching and “Trailhawk” embroidery, a black dashboard with red accents, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a “007” animation. The special edition also comes with a Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, a Beats premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and park assist.

The Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition is powered by a plug-in hybrid system that combines a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor and an 11.4-kWh battery pack. The gasoline engine produces 177 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, while the electric motor produces 59 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The total system output is 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, which is delivered to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission and an eAWD system. The eAWD system uses the electric motor to power the rear axle, while the gasoline engine powers the front axle, allowing for a seamless and efficient distribution of torque. The plug-in hybrid system also allows the Compass 4xe to drive in pure electric mode for up to 31 miles, with a top speed of 81 mph. The battery pack can be recharged in about five hours using a standard 120-volt outlet, or in about two hours using a 240-volt outlet. The fuel economy rating of the Compass 4xe is 157 mpg, while the CO2 emissions rating is 44 g/km.

The Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition is not only a tribute to the legendary Bond movies but also a showcase of the Jeep brand’s commitment to electrification and sustainability. The Jeep brand aims to offer a 4xe version of every model in its lineup by 2025, as well as a fully electric model by 2030. The Jeep brand also plans to install solar-powered charging stations at some of the most iconic off-road trails in the world, such as the Rubicon Trail in California and the Moab Trail in Utah, to allow its customers to enjoy nature without compromising the environment.

The Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition is available in Italy, where it is priced at €49,900, which is equivalent to about $58,800. The special edition is limited to only 250 units, making it a rare and exclusive collector’s item for both Jeep and Bond fans. The special edition also includes a welcome kit with a 007 keychain, a 007 cap, a 007 t-shirt, and a 007 poster. The Jeep Compass 4xe 007 Edition is a perfect way to celebrate the long-awaited release of No Time to Die and to experience the thrill and adventure of driving a Jeep vehicle, just like 007.
